EDDIE DEBARTOLO TELLS ABC REPORTS OF DEMISE EXAGGERATED

During last night's 49ers-Raiders broadcast on ABC, Al
Michaels reported that he spoke with 49ers co-Owner Eddie
DeBartolo, who said that "there is no agreement" between
himself and his sister, Denise DeBartolo York, regarding his
divestment from the team. Michaels: "There was an
announcement about a month ago that Eddie had divested
himself of his interest in the team. He said, 'There is no
agreement. We are working toward one. The announcement was
premature. Nothing is finalized. Attorneys are talking and
it's in the hands right now of a federal judge in Akron,
Ohio.'" Michaels: "DeBartolo did say, and he said, 'I'm
telling you this for the record today, ... if nothing is
signed and finalized by the first of February, then put my
name back on the parking space.'" Michaels added, "Now
whether that means Eddie wants to get back with the 49ers or
just wants to see this thing moved toward a finalization is
open to question." Michaels added that he "talked to [49ers
VP] John York about this before the game," and York's
response to DeBartolo's comments was, "Look, I would like to
talk to you about it, but I have been asked by the judge not
to discuss the situation" ("MNF," ABC, 8/30).
