Haven, CT, drew a total attendance of 74,236, an 84%
increase over last year's 40,351 (HARTFORD COURANT, 8/29).

moaning and groaning. ... As far as a title sponsor is
concerned, this [event] is a dream come true" (CBS,
8/28)....In Boston, the U.S. Pro Championships in Brookline,
MA, drew 30,000, which was 8,000 more than last year (BOSTON
     HERALD, 8/30)....A crowd of 51,371 attended Saturday's
Travers in Saratoga, NY. An all-time Saratoga record total
of $27,154,229 was wagered on the 10 races Saturday, $6.4M
on the Travers alone (Albany TIMES UNION, 8/29).
