UNIVERSAL APPEAL? MAGIC EXECS MEET WITH UNIVERSAL STUDIOS

Magic execs "met recently" with Universal Studios
officials, according to Larry Guest of the ORLANDO SENTINEL,
who wrote that the discussions could be about "nothing at
all -- as Universal intones -- to anything from a simple
joint promotion to a transfer of all or a portion of
ownership ... [or] even a future arena on Universal Studios
property." Magic President Bob Vander Weide, who called the
meeting "very exploratory": "We don't have any plans to
sell, but at some point we might be interested in partnering
in some way with an entertainment company." Universal
Studios President Tom Williams, on the meeting: "It was very
preliminary and there's nothing in the fire. To my
knowledge it had nothing to do with joint ownership." Guest
noted that a CA-based real estate exec "in the Universal
hierarchy" was involved in the talks and that he suspects a
future arena was being "explored" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/26).
