TV MONITOR: The top three stories on last night's
11:00pm ET editions of CNN/SI's "Sports Tonight," FSN's
"Primetime" (Fox Sports Net Chicago) and ESPN's
"SportsCenter," which aired on ESPN2 due to "Wednesday Night
Baseball," were, in order, Astros-Mets, Reds-Braves and
Indians-A's. The first non-MLB story on "Sports Tonight,"
at 7:23 into the broadcast, was an update on Spurs F Sean
Elliott. The first non-MLB story on both "Primetime," at
11:11, and "SportsCenter," at 9:14, was an update on Saints
RB Ricky Williams' ankle injury (THE DAILY).
WEB NOTES: PGA.com unveiled a redesigned site yesterday
which features a new look and renovated navigation. Also,
the PGA announced that its Ryder Cup '99 site, developed by
IBM and located at www.rydercup.com, will launch on
September 1 (PGA.com)....The American Sports History
Incorporated has announced plans to build a Web site at
www.SportsInfo.com (AMSH)....The latest Nielsen I-PRO audit
reports that the official CART Web site, located at
www.cart.com, received 656,941 total visits during July, an
average of 21,192 per day. Users requested 2,333,764 total
pages of information, or 3.6 pages per visit (CART).
MORE NOTES: CNBC kicks off its coverage of the PGA
Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open tonight at 11:00pm ET. The coverage
will feature the use of a new "television friendly scoring
system" that will emulate CNBC's stock ticker, carrying such
stats as season-to-date tour standings, current tournament
scores and leader categories. CNBC President Bill Bolster:
"CNBC viewers will recognize the data friendly screen,
whereas new viewers will be pleasantly surprised to see golf
statistics displayed in CNBC's ticker format" (CNBC)....The
Blackhawks have signed a TV rights agreement with Fox Sports
Net Chicago that includes rights to 39 regular season games,
as well as four preseason games for the '99-2000 NHL season
(TV Sportsfile, 8/25)....Empire Sports Network announced
that it will debut a weekly Syracuse Univ. athletics
highlight show called "Inside the Orange" on Friday at
6:30pm ET (Empire).
