GETTING HER PHIL: STEVENSON PITCHES HERSELF TO NIKE CHAIR

WTA Tour player Alexandra Stevenson personally "called"
Nike Chair Phil Knight "two weeks ago ... to explain exactly
why he should make her Nike's latest Gen-X sensation,"
according to Jill Lieber, who profiles Stevenson in a front-
page "Cover Story" in USA TODAY. Lieber, on Stevenson:
"Alexandra is one of the few people in the world who can
actually get ... Knight on the phone." Lieber reports that
Stevenson "pitched" to Knight that "she's 'multi-cultural'
like ... Tiger Woods [and] that she's always pictured
herself as 'the female Andre Agassi.'" Stevenson told
Knight, "Girls will want to wear my shoes. Boys will, too,
because, after all, I do have a size 12 foot." Knight:
"Well, I haven't stuck my hands into it. But I will now."
Lieber: "And ... swoosh! Guess what she'll be wearing from
head to toe ... at the U.S. Open?" (USA TODAY, 8/26).
