AF2-PLEASE THE FANS; NEW LEAGUE WILL MIRROR PARENT AFL

The Greensboro NEWS & RECORD'S Travis Miller profiled
arenafootball2 (af2) and wrote that the league's players
"will earn" $200-400 a game. The players "must stay on the
field for 30 minutes after each game, mingling with the
crowd and signing autographs." Roanoke Express GM Tommy
Benizio: "The exciting thing ... is that it's very, very
clearly designed for the fans, not the players" (NEWS &
     RECORD, 8/24).
GEORGIA ON AF2'S MIND: af2 officials "announced"
Tuesday that GA business exec Frank Lawrence "beat out" the
ECHL Augusta Lynx for an Augusta franchise, according to
Kent Kimes of the AUGUSTA CHRONICLE. af2 Exec Dir Mary
Ellen Garling, on Lawrence: "He has impressed us with his
business acumen and his passion." The "yet-to-be-named team
is set to begin play" in April at Augusta-Richmond County
Civic Center, which is also the home of the Lynx. But Kimes
reported that a "lease agreeement between the team and civic
center management needs to be worked out" (CHRONICLE, 8/25).
