OLYMPIC-SIZED STADIUM HEADACHE? NEW BALLPARK VITAL TO EXPOS

The ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH's Bernie Miklasz examines
the Expos and Olympic Stadium and writes, "My colleague Rick
Hummel called for a taxi to take us back to the hotel. The
cab company didn't know what Olympic Stadium was." Miklasz,
who notes that the Expos are averaging only 9,713 fans per
game "inside the awful, oxygen-depleted" stadium: "If the
Expos are to survive in Montreal, a new ballpark is
mandatory. Investors believe the Expos can average 30,000
fans a game with a venue in a bustling, popular
neighborhood." More Miklasz: "Just visiting Olympic
Stadium, you understand why fans are reluctant to buy
tickets. Vast, dark, dank and synthetic, Olympic easily is
the worst baseball setting in the majors. A new stadium
certainly would rejuvenate the fans" (ST. LOUIS POST-
     DISPATCH, 8/26).
