Musician David Bowie and his Internet company UltraStar
are working with the Yankees to relaunch the team's Web
site, according to Richard Wilner of the N.Y. POST.
UltraStar, which also has a Web deal with the Orioles, will
offer Yankees fans in September the chance to get an
"@yankees.com" e-mail address as well as "an advanced 3-D
world" where users can see what it is like to bat against P
Roger Clemens. UltraStar President Bob Goodale says Bowie
is "really excited and quite involved." Wilner adds that
"with the site, the Yanks cyber effort catches up with the
Mets Internet site, which had been light years ahead of
their Bronx rivals" (N.Y. POST, 8/25).
NOTE: Seattle-based Rivals.com announced that it has
launched more than 350 team sports and specialty channel Web
sites. It has also signed a letter of intent for a "broad
strategic alliance" with News America Digital Publishing
which includes an "equity investment" in Rivals.com. The
company has raised over $30M in financing in the past six
months from companies such as Intel Corp. and The Phoenix
Partners (Rivals.com).
