WELCOME, PETE: MLB Commissioner BUD SELIG said that
PETE ROSE will be invited to the World Series if he is
elected to the MLB All-Century Team (AP, 8/24). ABC's Aaron
Brown examined Rose's lifetime ban from baseball on last
night's "World News Tonight." Brown: "If anything, [Rose]
thumbs his nose at the game. There is the Pete Rose Museum
just down the block from baseball's Hall of Fame in
Cooperstown, and he shows up on Hall of Fame Weekend to sell
his autograph." Peter Gammons: "If Pete says he's sorry,
shows remorse, and does admit that he had problems, and does
admit that he did bet on baseball games, I think the wind
will blow so strongly that [MLB Commissioner Bud Selig] will
go along with it" ("World News Tonight," ABC, 8/23).
