MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          NCAA NOTES: Bell Atlantic is "close to re-signing" as
     the Atlantic 10's "largest sponsor for a mid-six figure
     deal," which would keep the company as the title sponsor of
     the conference's 23 championships.  The company "will
     receive wide-ranging exclusivity" in local, long-distance,
     Internet, wireless, directory and cable categories.  Also,
     Borden's Wise potato chips "decided not to renew" its four-
     year Big East sponsorship (Terry Lefton, BRANDWEEK,
     8/23)....ESPN and USA TODAY will co-sponsor SportsTicker's
     weekly Division I-AA college football poll for the third
     consecutive season (SportsTicker).
          MORE NOTES: In St. Paul, Charley Walters reports that
     Pittsburgh-based PLB will produce "Moss Magic," a cereal
     named for Vikings WR Randy Moss, which features "tiny
     marshmallows," with a portion of proceeds benefiting charity
     (PIONEER PRESS, 8/24)....DaimlerChrysler's Dodge division
     will field two to four teams, at a cost of $8-10M each, on
     the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit in 2000, with a source saying
     that while "details are not set," 28 of 32 dealer
     advertising associations (DAAs) "have approved a plan
     structured as a partnership" between the DAAs and
     DaimlerChrysler (Jeff Green, BRANDWEEK, 8/23 issue).
