OLYMPIC NOTES

In Salt Lake City, Mike Gorrell reported that the IOC
has "decided to stick with its original plan" to hold a
special session December 11-12 in Lausanne, Switzerland,
"undeterred by vandalism at its museum" following its
awarding the 2006 Winter Games to Italy. The IOC Exec Board
said that it "will be cheaper and easier logistically" than
to meet in alternative locations (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE,
8/22)....In Dallas, Cathy Harasta wrote that TX native Paul
Winston "could end up being the unseen force" for Dallas'
2012 Olympic bid. Winston, who was Dir of Facilities
Planning at the '96 Olympics, will work as a consultant for
the new Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Sports Commission.
Harasta: "Any city with designs on the Olympics absolutely
must have a Paul Winston on its team" (DMN, 8/21).
