COULD FENWAY PRICE SHOOT UP WITH PROPOSED LAND PARCEL DEALS?

Some Fenway-area landowners "are licking their chops"
over City Hall's $43M deal for a "key land parcel" in South
Boston, "suggesting the blockbuster sale bodes well for them
as the Red Sox look to assemble" a 15-acre site for a new
ballpark, according to Cosmo Macero of the BOSTON HERALD.
Macero notes that the "acquisition of Fenway land controlled
by" Boston Phoenix publisher Stephen Mindich and a dozen
other owners is "one of the largest hurdles facing" the
team's $550M ballpark development. The Red Sox "estimated"
land acquisition costs at $65M, but "others" have floated a
figure of $100M or more. Mindich, who "vows to fight City
Hall's expected bid to use eminent domain on behalf" of the
Red Sox: "You begin to see that the cost put out by the ...
Red Sox is so understated." Red Sox development consultant
Robert Walsh said that "comparing the Southie land takings"
with the Fenway [plan] is "inappropriate" (HERALD, 8/24).
