IS COKE BUSTING UP LOCAL BEVERAGE CO.'S (SARA)TOGA PARTY?

Saratoga Beverage Group's bottled water "has been a
mainstay at the Saratoga Race Course for years," but is
"getting edged out" by Coca-Cola, which has paid an
"undisclosed amount for an exclusive" five-year deal to sell
its beverages, including its Dasani bottled water brand, at
the track, according to Claire Hughes of the Albany TIMES-
UNION. Saratoga Beverage COO Adam Madkour, whose company
has had exclusive bottled water pouring rights at the track
for the past six years: "Unfortunately, we're not in a
position ... to write checks for millions of dollars." NY
Racing Association spokesperson William Nader said that
Saratoga Beverage "will likely be able to continue selling
its water ... alongside Dasani," but Hughes wrote that "will
still leave Madkour steamed," as he "wants the company's
exclusive rights to sell water at the track back." Madkour:
"Why would you want to offer the consumer at Saratoga Race
Course anything but Saratoga water?" (TIMES UNION, 8/19).
