"prohibit" fans from hanging stadium banners at the Pontiac
Silverdome during the regular season, according to Mike
O'Hara of the DETROIT NEWS. The ban will not apply to
preseason games and will go into effect for the team's home
opener against the Packers on September 19. Lions VP Bill
Keenist, who said that the new rule "has nothing to do" with
the recent retirement of Lions RB Barry Sanders: "We're
moving toward doing what a number of teams in the NFL do,
and that's have a `clean' stadium." Keenist added that the
team has "had problems" in the past with signs obstructing
the view of fans (DETROIT NEWS, 8/20).
