ARMSTRONG, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: LANCE MAKES $6M IN DEALS

Since Lance Armstrong won the Tour de France, "big-
money corporations have been pitching six to seven-figure
endorsement deals" and he has reached pacts valued at $6M,
according to Suzanne Halliburton of the AUSTIN AMERICAN-
STATESMAN. Capital Sports Ventures President & Armstrong's
agent Bill Stapleton: "Lance is somewhat astounded by what's
happening now. The numbers are pretty staggering, and he's
really flattered." Stapleton added that companies are
paying "a minimum of $500,000 annually" for Armstrong's
exclusive rights and "at least" $250,000 to use Armstrong's
name or image. Halliburton reports that combining
Armstrong's $2M salary from the USPS and his endorsements,
he "should make" $5M in 2000, "about $100,000 more than"
Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith earned last year. Also, Bridge
Information Systems will begin airing TV spots featuring
Armstrong "in the coming weeks," and the company "purchased
a large video screen" in N.Y.'s Times Square on which to
show the ad (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 8/19).
