PBA STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE BEST GOVERNING OPERATION

The Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) has an
"image problem" and two of the organizations "formed to
solve it have struck out," according to Phil Gulick of the
ST. PETERSBURG TIMES. Gulick: "That the PBA cannot project
a positive image to enough big-money people is nothing new.
Bowling has had that problem for centuries, it seems."
Gulick adds that "what's so discouraging" is that Strike Ten
Entertainment (STE) and Bowling, Inc., "can't get their act
together long enough to steer a successful course for the
sport." PBA Commissioner Mark Gerberich, on STE: "I don't
know where we stand now in relation to STE. There are
assurances from the industry that they want to support the
tour, but there are also strings attached." Gulick, on the
PBA's future: "Rumors abound that the PBA is headed for a
friendly takeover, that both the men's and women's tours as
we know them are on their last legs" (ST. PETE TIMES, 8/19).
