IN A ZONE ... FLYERS SKATING INTO NEW FACILITY IN NJ

Comcast-Spectacor is turning the Twin Rinks of
Pennsauken (NJ) into Flyers Skate Zone at Pennsauken, which
will feature two NHL size rinks, eight dressing rooms, a
concession stand, pro shop, arcade and restaurant (Flyers).
In Philadelphia, Les Bowen reports that Comcast-Spectacor
"acknowledged" it was also negotiating" to build Flyers
Skate Zones in Northeast Philadelphia and York (PA).
     Comcast-Spectacor VP/Rink Development Pat Ferrill: "There's
a big need for more facilities throughout the region."
Bowen, on the impact of Flyers Skate Zone: "Traditionally,
ice-rink profit margins haven't been overwhelming, but youth
hockey is booming, and through the use of their logo and
occasional appearances by players, the Flyers can ensure and
strengthen fan loyalty." Ferrill: "It's going to help
entrench us in the market." Ferrill adds that the company
"expects to build or acquire" from seven to 10 rinks over
the next three years (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 8/19).
