HOOSIER SPONSOR? RCA, FOR AT LEAST ONE MORE YEAR

IN-based Thomson Consumer Electronics has renewed its
RCA brand's title sponsorship of the ATP Tour's RCA
Championships for 2000, according to Sean Horgan of the
INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, who notes that next year will be the
company's ninth as title sponsor of the event. Thomson
would not reveal what it spends on the sponsorship annually,
but "sports marketers" estimate it spends about $1M. The
announcement "puts to rest rumblings" that the company was
"re-evaluating the value" of the deal. Thomson spokesperson
Dave Arland said the company is "very pleased" with the
relationship, "largely because of the phenomenal television
coverage the tournament generates through its agreement with
NBC." NBC will broadcast the semifinals and finals, while
ESPN will provide daily coverage of the event, which begins
Monday, "up to the weekend" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 8/13).
