THE GIFT OF GARBER: NEW MLS COMMISH DOING THE MEET & GREET

New MLS Commissioner Don Garber "plans to meet with
staff at the league office" in N.Y., as well as "staff,
players, fans and media of every MLS team" over the "next
few weeks," according to Jeanie Chung of the CHICAGO SUN-
TIMES. Garber said during those meetings, he will "take it
on the chin for whatever I need to take it on the chin for."
Garber has also "scheduled a meeting" with ESPN execs to
"determine how MLS can get more and better media exposure."
Garber attended Sunday's Mutiny-United game and met with
members of the United fan club, the "Screaming Eagles."
Garber: "It was exciting. It was a really interesting
change for me to meet with fans, and I think I'm going to do
this as much as I can" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/10). In DC,
Sylvia Moreno writes that a fan was stabbed at RFK Stadium
during Sunday's Mutiny-United match. Garber said the
incident was "obviously a very unfortunate situation" and
added that "there are no plans to increase security" at MLS
stadiums. Garber: "It was an isolated incident and dealt
     with quickly" (WASHINGTON POST, 8/10).
