YANKEES READY TO TAKE THEIR PINSTRIPES TO THE FAR EAST?

The Yankees are "embarking on quite an ambitious off-
field brand extension trip that will include a greatly
enhanced presence on the Internet, and quite possibly, the
international expansion of Yankee stores," according to
Richard Wilner of the N.Y. POST. The moves "are expected to
begin Monday," with the relaunch of Yankees.com that will
"eventually" look to sell Internet access service to fans.
Internet access would cost "about" $5 less than AOL and
allow fans to get their e-mail at yankeesxtreme.com. The
"expanded Internet move" could "mean another" $5M "or so" in
revenues. The team has also approached MLB about opening up
a Yankees store in Japan (N.Y. POST, 7/30).
