MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          LINING UP FOR A SHOT: In Dallas, Brad Townsend writes
     that Hank Kuehne, who is set to make his pro debut next
     month, "has discussed" a ball contract with Srixon "in the
     neighborhood" of $250,000 per year, which is "at least
     $100,000 a year higher than most beginning pros garner." 
     Townsend adds that although Hugo Boss "had been the rumored
     front-runner to sign Kuehne to an apparel deal, those
     negotiations have broken off.  And Kuehne has decided to
     wait until he earns his PGA Tour card before signing an
     equipment deal" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/28).  
          PESPI IS IN THE HALL: PepsiCo has signed a sponsorship
     agreement with the National Football Foundation and the
     College Football Hall of Fame.  Dallas-based Host
     Communications handled the deal (Host). 
          MORE NOTES: Mia Hamm has designed a Jimmy V tie and a
     portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy V
     Foundation for cancer research (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL,
     7/27)....In Dallas, Frank Luksa examines the multiple
     sponsorship deals surrounding the Cowboys' preseason camp in
     Wichita Falls writes that Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones
     "estimated" that for sponsors to "qualify as a marketing
     presence" during the Cowboys five-week camp, they "add" 20%
     to their regular-season bill (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
     7/28)....Ad spots for ESPN's coverage of Bowling's U.S. Open
     on Sunday, August 1, are sold out.  New Skin, a liquid
     bandage product, and Dickies, a line of men's clothing, are
     the latest to buy time, and both have been designated as
     "Platinum" sponsors for the telecast.  Along with presenting
     sponsor AMF, they will receive opening and closing
     billboards, as well as camera signage during ESPN's
     telecast.  Other telecast sponsors include MasterCard,
     Hershey, and A-B's Budweiser and Bud Light (Strike Ten).
