HAS HARGRAVE'S DEPARTURE STALLED A-B'S BGN KY SPONSORSHIP?

Anheuser-Busch officials and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are
scheduled to appear at a Thursday news conference in KY,
where sources said NASCAR and A-B execs are planning to
announce the new $130M KY Speedway will host a BGN race in
2000, with Budweiser as the title sponsor, according to Jim
Utter of the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. But the announcement "was
placed in doubt Friday," when A-B's Dir of Sports Marketing
Mike Hargrave left his position to take a similar job at
Texaco. Hargrave had been working on the KY Speedway deal
(CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 7/24). For more, see (#26).
NASCAR'S ODDS & ENDS: With Terry Labonte signing a

Kellogg's is "talking with the team about a similar
extension" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 7/24)....Sara Lee, the
sponsor of Chuck Rider's team, "is not expected to return as
a Winston Cup sponsor next season ... joining a growing list
of major sponsors leaving" the series (W-S JOURNAL, 7/24).
