SPURS HOPE TO CRACK SOUTHWESTERN BELL IN POSSIBLE NAME DEAL

          Though plans for a new Spurs arena have yet to be
     finalized, SBC Communications officials "have been
     approached" by team execs about putting the SBC or
     Southwestern Bell name on the proposed facility, according
     to Travis Poling of the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS.  SBC
     Managing Dir of Sports Marketing Jeff Weber said that "it
     may be too early for the Spurs to talk about naming the
     arena," but he noted that the company would "take a look at
     all opportunities."  SBC has a 7% ownership stake in the
     team.  Weber: "Certainly (Spurs officials) indicated they
     would like to talk to us about that" (EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/23).
