THE GOLDEN NUGGET? SAUDI PRINCESS A NUGGETS FAN FOR YEARS

          Saudi Princess Thara Baselia Saud released a statement
     yesterday regarding her bid for Ascent Entertainment's
     sports assets, which read in part, "I have followed the
     Denver Nuggets for a long time and believe they are a very
     viable franchise with tremendous potential yet to be
     realized.  I believe that I can bring the kind of stability
     the Nuggets, Avalanche and the Pepsi Center need to thrive"
     (THE DAILY).  Saud's financial adviser Valerian Butler
     Smith: "Her interest in Denver goes beyond the teams.  She
     will be really interested in programs and projects that help
     the city" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 7/23).  David Falk said that
     Michael Jordan "wasn't interested" in joining Saud's bid for
     Ascent's sports properties (USA TODAY, 7/23).  Saud admitted
     yesterday that Jordan's participation in her bid is "highly
     unlikely" ("Fox Sports News Primetime," 7/22).
