SPRINT SHIFTING THE FOCUS OF ITS SPORTS MARKETING PROGRAM?

ESPN2's John Kernan reported on "RPM 2Night" that
Sprint "has notified Treadway Racing it will not return as
sponsor of Sam Schmidt's IRL car next season." Sprint said
that the move "is part of an attempt to change the focus of
its sports marketing program" ("RPM 2Night," ESPN2, 7/21).
HOLIGAN'S TRAVELS: NASCAR WINSTON CUP SCENE's Jeff
Owens writes that the recently signed three-year sponsorship
deal between Dallas-based Michael Holigan Homes and one of
three Rick Hendrick-owned Winston Cup Chevrolets -- to be
driven by Jerry Nadeau beginning next year -- is "being
called one of the biggest" deals in NASCAR history. Owens'
sources put the deal between $9-10M a year (NASCAR WINSTON
CUP SCENE, 7/22 issue). Company President Michael Holigan,
when asked about the value of the NASCAR deal: "The great
thing about being a private company is we don't have to put
out any numbers" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 7/22).
