          ALEXANDRA STEVENSON tells ABC's BARBARA WALTERS on
     Friday's "20/20" that RDV Sports VP JULIUS ERVING appeared
     "kind of stupid" when he first denied he was her biological
     father.  Stevenson: "I thought that was kind of stupid of
     him.  It did appear to make him look stupid."  Asked if she
     felt any bitterness toward Erving, Stevenson says, "a
     little.  I just don't think he showed great character when
     he denied it at first" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/21)....Yankees P
     DAVID CONE "threw a beanball" at First Lady HILLARY RODHAM
     CLINTON while accepting a Key to the City from NYC Mayor
     RUDY GIULIANI yesterday.  Cone referred to Clinton donning a
     Yankees cap at a White House reception for the team several
     weeks ago while "claiming she was a closet Yankees fan for
     life," thanked Giuliani for his "sincerity as a Yankee fan." 
     Cone: "I mean, there's a lot of politicians that say they're
     baseball fans and put on the cap" (N.Y. POST, 7/21). ...Jets
     WR KEYSHAWN JOHNSON's role as part of a team of developers
     planning to turn a 23-acre site in the South-Central L.A.
     neighborhood into a $53M shopping center and commercial
     project is profiled in today's N.Y. TIMES.  Johnson: "This
     will allow me to better understand who I am and where I came
     from.  This will also give people a better idea that there's
     more to me than just football."  Johnson would not say how
     much he is investing, but it "is believed" to be in the
     $250,000-500,000 range (N.Y. TIMES, 7/21)....In S.F., Matier
     & Ross report that 49ers co-Owner EDDIE DEBARTOLO JR. was
     "planning a quiet going-away bash for himself and his family
     last night."  Invitees included "a few" 49ers staffers. 
     "Word" has that DeBartolo has sold his Atherton, CA, home
     for "upwards of" $5M (S.F. CHRONICLE, 7/21)....Pacers G
     JALEN ROSE has "dismissed" agent NORM NIXON and hired DAVID
     FALK (INDY STAR-NEWS, 7/21)....BUD GREENSPAN's CAPPY
     PRODUCTIONS and the EDWARD R. PRESSMAN FILM CORP. acquired
     the worldwide motion picture rights to the life story of
     LANCE ARMSTRONG.  Film details have yet to be determined
     (DAILY VARIETY, 7/21)....Penguins RW JAROMIR JAGR opened the
     first in his chain of sports bars yesterday, as the Jagr
     Sports Bar opened in Prague.  Additional Jagr Sports Bars
     are set to open in other Czech cities (CP,
     7/21)....Compuware Corp. Chair & CEO and Hurricanes Owner
     PETER KARMANOS made $85M from stock options in FY '99 on top
     of his $600,000 salary and $1.6M bonus (DETROIT NEWS, 7/21).
