FRANCHISE NOTES

TITAN WOES? In Nashville, Larry Woody wonders why the
Titans have 8,000 unsold PSLs: "It's too early to panic, but
a bit of apprehension might be in order. ... Where are the
74,047 Nashvillians that 'NFL Yes' persuaded to vote for the
... stadium deal?" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 7/16).
OTHER NOTES: The average ticket price for the new ECHL
franchise in Greensboro (NC) will be $8.75, which is more
than $30 less than the average for Hurricanes games during
their two-year stint in the city. Team Majority Owner Art
Donaldson: "Folks down here aren't stupid. They understand
what reasonable prices are, so we've got to give it to them"
(Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 7/16)....In Baltimore, Jamison
Hensley cites a source as saying the NLL Thunder is "96
percent certain" that it will relocate to Pittsburgh next
season. The Thunder ranked 5th in the seven-team league last
season with an average of 6,953 fans (Baltimore SUN,
7/16)....The MLB Rangers have joined in a promo with Lone
Star Park at Grand Prairie (TX) "to try to raise awareness
about the [horse racing] track." The track will give out
"track packs," which include free admission, a beginner's
racing program and Dr Pepper, to the first 20,000 fans at
Rangers games this weekend. Lone Star Marketing Dir G.W.
Hail said the promotion was an extension of the track's
partnership with the Stars (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 7/16).
