SCHILLER IN TALKS WITH STEINBRENNER FOR YANKEE/NETS POST?

          Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner, "looking to put
     together a top management team for his Yankee/Nets
     operation," has his "sights set on" Turner Sports President
     Harvey Schiller, according to Bob Raissman of the N.Y. DAILY
     NEWS.  MLB and broadcast sources "say Steinbrenner and
     Schiller already have engaged in talks."  One source: "At
     this stage of the game those discussions have become more
     intense."  Raissman notes that "any talk of staffing
     Yankee/Nets is premature at this point," as the merger of
     the two teams "still must be approved" by both MLB and the
     NBA.  But Steinbrenner's "pursuit of Schiller makes sense,"
     since Schiller is a "well-respected and versatile executive
     with experience" in sports TV and team management.  He is a
     "close friend" of Steinbrenner (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/15).
