MEDIA MONITOR ON THE WOMEN'S WORLD CUP: TEAM IS EVERYWHERE

          NEWSWEEK features Brandi Chastain on its cover, replete
     in her Nike sports bra, under the header, "Girls Rule." 
     TIME features the women's team celebration under the header,
     "What A Kick" (THE DAILY). The U.S. team "is expected" to be
     on the cover of Sports Illustrated and People.  David
     Letterman "has invited" the team for a July 20 appearance on
     his show (WASHINGTON POST, 7/12).  U.S. team members were
     interviewed on many of the Sunday morning talk shows
     yesterday, including NBC's "Meet The Press" and ABC's "This
     Week With Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts."  Last night, NBC's
     "Nightly News" led its broadcast with a 1:52 segment on the
     U.S. women's team.  CBS "Evening News" led with a 2:37
     report on the U.S. women's team and ABC's "World News
     Tonight" ran a 2:10 story on the Women's World Cup to close
     its broadcast.  This morning, ABC's "GMA" had 19 of the 20
     U.S. team members (minus Michelle Akers) on live for its
     first hour.  The show began by introducing each of the
     players and included a congratulatory phone call from Wayne
     Gretzky.  At the end of the hour, ABC's Charles Gibson told
     the team, "I cannot think of a group of people that I more
     want representing my country than all of you."  NBC's
     "Today" show led with a feature on the U.S. team and Katie
     Couric interviewed WWC President & CEO Marla Messing. 
     During the last half hour of the show, "Today" hosted the 19
     team members live.  "CBS This Morning" ran Mark McEwen's
     taped interviews with Mia Hamm, Chastain, Briana Scurry,
     Kristine Lilly and Tiffeny Milbrett (THE DAILY).
