FRANCE LIFTS BAN ON COCA-COLA PRODUCTS; IVESTER APOLOGIZES

France "lifted the damaging nine-day ban" on Coca-Cola
products last Thursday and gave the products a "clean bill
of health," according to Robert Graham of the FINANCIAL
TIMES. Public health officials "found no contaminants" in
the Coke products and the cause of the "mild poisoning ...
     remained a mystery" (FINANCIAL TIMES, 6/25). Coca-Cola
Chair DOUG IVESTER "was to make a personal apology on
Belgian TV" last Friday in a commercial created in-house,
which was to run on "all four national channels" (AD AGE,
6/27). In N.Y., Constance Hays wrote Ivester's apology in
Belgian newspaper ads "stopped short of admitting
liability." Coca-Cola "also released a toxicology report
that suggested something else might have caused the
     symptoms" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/27).
