he will "solicit contributions from virtually all of Utah's
major corporations" for support of the 2002 Games. Romney:

them. And I will give myself" (DESERET NEWS, 6/27). In

MORE NOTES: In Pittsburgh, Lori Shontz wrote that the
IOC's selection of Turin over Sion to host the 2006 Games

IOC's ... tax-exempt status" in Lausanne (PITTSBURGH POST-
GAZETTE, 6/26). In Philadelphia, Bob Ford wrote that the
IOC "allowed Turin to overcome its image as a sowewhat gray,
largely industrial city" with the selection. Ford: "Turin
is to Italy what Detroit is to the United States"
(PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 6/27)....In N.Y., Joe Lapointe wrote

suggest that this fledgling franchise could already be an
influential player ... on major issues such as Olympic
participation in 2002" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/26).
