IF SPURS BUILD IT, WILL DUNCAN STAY IN SAN ANTONIO?

ESPN.com's David Aldridge wrote that the Spurs "get the
message" that F/C Tim Duncan, who will be a free agent after
next season, "would like a new arena." Spurs Chair Peter
Holt: "If it was up to me, I'd sign Tim tomorrow. I
understand Tim's issue. It's our issue. ... It's hard for
the voters in San Antonio to understand why we need a new
facility. Why build this for a bunch of basketball
millionaires? We've got quite an education ahead of us. We
need leadership" (ESPN.com, 6/26). Duncan, on his future:
"I love San Antonio. It's a great place. ... We just have
to get it [arena deal] done. I think we will get it done"
(SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 6/26). In Toronto, Frank
Zicarelli: "The Spurs play out of the Alamodome, a football
stadium that barely passes as a basketball venue." Duncan,
on the city's need for a new arena: "We've given them a good
reason to keep us there" (TORONTO SUN, 6/27).
