SPONSORS BEGIN TO WONDER IF THERE'S A DOKIC IN THE HOUSE

WTA Tour player Jelena Dokic, who upset No. 1 ranked
Martina Hingis in the first round of Wimbledon, has "gained
the maximum possible exposure for her extraordinary
triumph," according to Richard Hinds of the SYDNEY MORNING
HERALD. But Dokic's agent, Ivan Brixi of Advantage Int'l,
said that the 16-year-old Australian and her family "will be
cautious about which of the many opportunities now certain
to come their way will be taken." Brixi: "With somebody
like her ... you have to look at the image, you have to look
at the fit, most of the sponsorship offers might not have
been the appropriate thing if you look for the long term."
Dokic has deals with Fila and racquet manufacturer Head
(SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/24). FSN's Keith Olbermann noted
that Dokic has "already received endorsement proposals from
hotels, restaurants, soft drinks and a loan institution."
Olbermann wondered, "A 16-year-old girl tennis player
endorsing a finance company?" ("FSN Primetime," 6/23).
