NIKE STREAMLINES WEB SITE WITH EXPANDED E-COMMERCE

Nike relaunched nike.com yesterday with a redesigned
look and an e-commerce section which allows users to
purchase Nike products from 14 sports categories, including
the Jordan Brand and Nike Golf lines. Among the new
features is the "Product Finder," which allows users to
locate apparel and equipment within a price range of their
choice. A store locator also lists Nike retailers across
the country. Creative and technical consultants for the
site include Red Sky Interactive, Vicinity Corporation,
CyberSource and Inter World (Nike). Nike Dir of Global
Issues Management Vada Manager said that Nike "expected the
expanded online sales effort to increase excitement about
the products and funnel more business to retailers."
Manager: "Studies have shown that at this stage people still
do prefer to buy products of this nature in a store." Nike
"charges the full retail price" for items sold online, but
"shipping fees are being waived for now" (REUTERS, 6/22).
