GOING FOR THE GOLD: NBC DOUBLES ITS 2000 OLYMPICS COVERAGE

NBC, in conjunction with MSNBC and CNBC, will televise
"more than 330 hours" of the 2000 Olympic Games from Sydney,
according to Athelia Knight of the WASHINGTON POST. The
coverage is "twice the number of hours" the network
broadcast from Atlanta in '96 and "will include some sports,
such as boxing, which have received little television
exposure during recent Olympics." NBC Sports Chair Dick
Ebersol said that NBC's 160 hours of broadcast will feature
"most of the major Olympic sports," while the remaining 170
hours of coverage will air on either MSNBC or CNBC.
Ebersol: "The coverage on the cable channels ... is what
opens up so much more of the other Olympic sports which have
not gotten coverage" (WASHINGTON POST, 6/23).
