UTAH TO LAUNCH AD BLITZ IN ORDER TO BE SKI-NG OF THE WORLD

          Ski UT will embark on a "major get-acquainted-with-
     Utah-skiing" ad campaign beginning in the fall, despite
     setting a record for skier days this past season, according
     to Ray Grass of the DESERET NEWS.  The campaign will feature
     a 24-page insert to be placed in ski publications which will
     "spotlight nothing but Utah skiing" areas.  This will cost
     $500,000.  Ski UT will also produce ski inserts for local
     papers in "key newspaper markets" like Boston and L.A., and
     then "will buy and ... re-sell advertising to other
     companies."  Ski UT President Kip Pitou hopes to attract
     skiers by taking  "market share from resorts outside of Utah
     that are doing much more business than we are -- Colorado,
     California, New York, New England -- wherever the market
     exists."  Ski UT will also target local skiers, of which
     there are "relatively few,"  as 7% of UT residents ski
     compared to 25% of Boston residents (DESERET NEWS, 6/22).
