MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          MLB: MasterCard formally announced its promotion with
     MLB which will allow fans to vote for the Top 25 players of
     the century (See THE DAILY, 4/28).  NY-based McCann-Erickson
     Worldwide will handle the TV and print campaign, CT-based
     Ryan Partnership will handle promotion and TX-based GSD&M
     will handle the interactive advertising.  The campaign will
     also include in-store promos at Kmart (AD AGE, 6/23).  MLB
     Historian Jerome Holtzman, the commissioner's office and a
     select panel will choose the players for the ballot.  Fans
     will vote from July 13-September 10 and the team will be
     announced before Game One of the World Series (AP, 6/23).
          NOTES: Flutie Flakes will be available in Canada within
     the next few weeks, with promos already underway supporting
     the effort.  The Canadian version will be in a limited
     edition collector's box (TORONTO SUN, 6/23)....Golfer John
     Daly "hinted" that Callaway, his club sponsor, was "not
     happy with his comments" regarding the USGA at last
     weekend's U.S. Open.  Daly: "I got scolded pretty good this
     morning" (SOUTH BEND TRIBUNE, 6/22)....Former Stanford Univ.
     golfer Joel Kribel has signed with Integrated Sports Int'l
     (BLOOMBERG, 6/21)....Fox Sports Net Northwest has become a
     presenting sponsor of the Seattle Marathon (Seattle
     Marathon)....Heineken is again partnering with John McEnroe
     to promote its sponsorship of the U.S. Open Tennis
     Championships.  McEnroe will unveil a painting around the
     effort, which features his own rendition of the NYC skyline,
     on CBS's "Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn" (Heineken).
