Red Sox CEO John Harrington presented the team's plans
for a new ballpark to more than 400 Boston businesswomen
yesterday during a two-hour discussion, and in Boston, Meg
Vaillancourt writes that "in general, the women in the
audience gave Harrington a warm reception." But after the
event, the "women raised the tough financing questions that
could determine the project's fate" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/23).
PR BID: In Boston, Cosmo Macero writes the Patriots
"are priming Foxboro residents for a crucial town meeting
vote on the team's new stadium with a public relations
campaign." Residents began receiving the team's "Stadium
Update" newsletter yesterday, which includes endorsements of
the stadium by NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue and former
Pats QB and Foxboro resident Steve Grogan (BOSTON HERALD,
6/23). In Boston, Gregg Krupa notes that Foxboro voters "are
expected to consider zoning and lease issues for the new
stadium sometime later this year." The Stadium Update
states that the facility will "result in at least" $1M
annually in fees for the town and means more than a 50%
increase in full- and part-time employees. The newsletter
also "includes a statement, and an apology," from team Owner
Robert Kraft: "The town was an innocent bystander during a
process in which we were fighting for the club's long-term
survival. For that, I am sorry" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/23).
