DAYTONA TO HOST HOUSE PARTY FOR FL POLITICIANS AT PEPSI 400

For the first time in the history of Daytona Int'l
Speedway, track officials "have issued an open invitation"
to all 120 members of the FL Legislature for a major race,
according to Gary Fineout of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL.
The outing, called "Legislative Night at the Races," won't
be "completely free," as legislators will have to pay $100
for the tickets to sit in Keech Tower. Legislators "also
will be treated to a tour of the track and the garage and
pit areas" as well as a barbecue dinner before the race.
Rep. Tom Warner (R), who conceived the idea for the event:
"It is a major attraction and business that we ought to be
proud of. A lot of legislators don't know much about NASCAR
and what it means to this state." The event comes just
weeks after Gov. Jeb Bush's veto of $3M in state funds that
would have gone to build a pedestrian bridge over the eight
     lanes of Int'l Speedway Boulevard (NEWS-JOURNAL, 6/9).
