MLB TEAM NOTES: MIXED REAX TO MCLANE; WHITE SOX WOES PERSIST

HOUSTON OFFICIAL WANTS TO MOVE ON: In Houston, Harris
County-Houston Sports Authority Board Member Al Luna writes
an Op-Ed in today's HOUSTON CHRONICLE that the city doesn't
need the "unfair, unnecessary and troubling controversy"
surrounding Astros Owner Drayton McLane "to linger." Luna:
"Houston needs such great assets as McLane and Hispanics to
be on the same team so our great metropolitan area can
continue to benefit" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 6/10). MLB Dir of
PR Rich Levin said that MLB Commissioner Bud Selig "never
talked to McLane's accusers" at KTDM-Telemundo and added:
"Character counts. We believed [McLane] and we were right."
But in Dallas, Kevin Blackistone writes, "The Hispanic TV
executives deserved better from baseball than a summary
dismissal. It wouldn't have hurt Selig to hear their side
of the story" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 6/10).
MARLINS: In Miami, Greg Cote writes that the Marlins
took a seven-game win streak into last night's game against
the Orioles, but drew only 12,851. Cote: "Imagine if the
home team had been on a losing streak?" Cote adds that the
team "dearly needs" a retractable roof stadium "to compete
financially," partly because there have been seven rain
delays at the past 12 home dates (MIAMI HERALD, 6/10).
