The Jazz are "perplexed" at the NBA's decision to award
the Spurs a $450,000 bonus for having the best Western
Conference record even though they tied with the Jazz for
the best mark. The Spurs beat the Jazz 2-1 during the
regular season. Jazz F Thurl Bailey: "It doesn't seem fair,
right off the top of my head" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 5/28).
...In N.Y., Richard Sandomir reports that Fox Sports "wants
to reduce" its 50% stake in NFL Europe "because it is not
benefiting from" the league as much as the NFL is (N.Y.
TIMES, 5/28). NEWSDAY's Steve Zipay also notes Fox Sports
looking to decrease its interest NFL Europe, and writes of
the NFL's $10M investment to bring back instant replay. NFL
Senior VP/Broadcasting Dennis Lewin says that despite the
new system, "We're still at the mercy of the networks"
(NEWSDAY, 5/28). A BOSTON HERALD editorial gives kudos to
the NFL for its stadium loans announced Wednesday: "The
[NFL] did want it said it was going to do -- put its money
where its priorities are" (BOSTON HERALD, 5/28).
....Breeders' Cup Limited officials announced yesterday that
Churchill Downs has been selected to host the 2000 Breeders'
Cup Championship for the fifth time (Breeders' Cup).
