WILL THEY STAY OR WILL THEY GO? EXPOS WAITING FOR MLB REVIEW

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has hired consultants who
are reviewing proposals for a new Expos ballpark in downtown
Montreal and the business plan to keep the team in the city,
according to USA TODAY's Hal Bodley. However, Selig said
that the work "won't be completed, as planned, by the end of
May." Should the Expos leave Montreal at the end of the
season, Bodley reports that Charlotte "appears to be the
most likely" destination (USA TODAY, 5/25). Meanwhile, the
WALL STREET JOURNAL's Frederick Klein examines the apathy of
Expos fans: "Even the meager [attendance] numbers that go
into the books may overstate the current lack of local
enthusiasm" for the sport. But novelist Mordecai Richler
said, "We like good teams playing in a nice ballpark. Give
us those and we'll come out" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/25).
