NAMES IN THE NEWS

          TV MONITOR: Last night, the 11:00pm ET edition of "Fox
     Sports News Primetime" (Fox Sports South), ESPN's
     "SportsCenter" and CNN/SI's 11:00pm ET "Sports Tonight" all
     led with the Spurs-Lakers game.  ESPN and FSN followed with
     Pacers-76ers Game Four highlights, while CNN followed with
     Cardinals-Dodgers highlights (THE DAILY).
          WRESTLING TRAGEDY: WWF Wrestler OWEN "THE BLUE BLAZER"
     HART died from a head injury sustained in a stunt accident
     during a show in K.C., MO last night.  WWF Chair Vince
     McMahon: "We don't have any answers as to why this happened
     ... There is an ongoing investigation" (N.Y. POST, 5/24). 
     In K.C., Stearns & King report that "in what some fans said
     was poor taste, the show went on as scheduled" (K.C. STAR,
     5/24). NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning America" both
     led with news on Hart's death this morning (THE DAILY).
          NAMES: Duke men's basketball coach MIKE KRZYZEWSKI was
     the school's highest paid employee for the second year in a
     row with a salary of $390,000 (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/22).
     ...HarperCollins has published a new book written by former
     Coca-Cola CMO and Z-Sports Founder SERGIO ZYMAN titled, "The
     End of Marketing As We Know It" (N.Y. TIMES, 5/24).
     ...NEWSWEEK profiles Lakers G KOBE BRYANT and writes that
     Bryant's moves "make him the envy of teenage boys," while
     his "megawatt smile" makes him a "heartthrob for teenage
     girls, ensuring his status as one of the NBA's premier
     pitchmen" (NEWSWEEK, 5/31 issue)....A CO News Poll conducted
     this month shows that JOHN ELWAY continues to be one of the
     most popular figures in CO.  A survey of 600 residents
     conducted by Talmey-Drake Research and Strategy in Boulder
     showed that 60% of state residents have a "very positive"
     feelings toward Elway, another 23% had "somewhat positive"
     feelings toward him (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 5/22).
