DEEP IMPACT: THREE PREMIER EVENTS DRAW BIG BUCKS TO CITIES

          The NCAA Women's Final Four at San Jose Arena generated
     an estimated $20.8M for the city, including $11M in direct
     expenditures by 17,000 visitors to the city; $1.9M in direct
     expenditures by the NCAA, Women's Basketball Coaches
     Association, tournament sponsors and the local organizing
     committee; and $7.9M in indirect expenditures to the local
     economy (San Jose Sports Authority).
          MIAMI PRICE: The SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Marcy Lamm
     writes that the economic impact of Super Bowl XXXIII to the
     Miami area was $396M, according to an NFL study conducted by
     FL-based Sports Management Research Institute.  The 110,700
     visitors to the city spent an average of $400.03 per day
     (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 5/17 issue).
          FIESTA DOUGH: In Phoenix, Kent Somers wrote that an AZ
     St. Univ.'s Center for Business Research study revealed that
     the Fiesta Bowl generated an overall economic impact of
     $133M to the state.  The study found that 69,000 visitors
     spent $58M for lodging, food, entertainment and other goods
     and services.  The number surpasses the previous high impact
     of $96.8M, set in '96 (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 5/14).
