OH AUTO DEALER THOMAS GANLEY LOOKING TO JOIN THE TRIBE

Ganley Auto Group Founder & Owner Thomas Ganley has
become the first person to publicly declare his interest in
buying the Indians, according to David Adams of the AKRON
BEACON JOURNAL. Ganley, who owns 17 car dealerships in
Northeast OH, said he has contacted both Goldman Sachs and
McDonald & Co. to "begin assembling a proposal" to purchase
the team. He said a proposal would likely be done within 30
days. Ganley, who said he is conducting the bid himself,
added, "This is preliminary. There are a lot of details
that need to be addressed" (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 5/20).
TRUE VALUE: MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, on the Indians
sale: "I'm not sure anyone can think this is good as far as
escalating franchise value. There are a lot of franchise
values that are not escalating. For every franchise that
goes up, there are two or three that have significant
     problems" (BASEBALL WEEKLY, 5/19 issue).
