JEREMY JACOBS UNPLUGGED: SAYS HE WON'T OVERSPEND ON B'S

Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs told Will McDonough that he
does not "intend to spend a lot of money" to make the Bruins
competitive on-ice. Jacobs: "That will not happen. As long
as I own this team, it will make money. We are a business.
I'm not going to go out and do what some of these owners
have done in this league, spend so foolishly that they have
put the league in terrible shape. ... Luckily for us, we've
got a great commissioner who is trying to jawbone this thing
back to reality. The Bruins make money, and will continue
to make money. But we do not make nearly the money people
say we do." Jacobs, on free agent spending: "I'm just not
going to lose any (money). And I'm not going to be foolish
like some other owners who spent so much money on players,
they are now losing a ton. ... Pittsburgh is bankrupt.
Imagine having a team that can win the Stanley Cup and maybe
having to move it." Jacobs, on his future: "I'm not going
to sell this team" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/15).
