EXPOS GET $3M INVESTOR; JOE MORGAN NOT ROMANCING THIS STONE

Canam Magnac, a Quebec steel manufacturing company,
announced on Friday that it will invest C$3M in the Expos,
according to Stephanie Myles of the Montreal GAZETTE. It is
"only the second Quebec company," after a C$10M promise from
Loblaw's grocery chain, to "make public its plans to help"
     the franchise (Montreal GAZETTE, 5/17).
MORGAN VS. STONE, CONTINUED: Joe Morgan, a member of
Andy Dolich's group looking to acquire the A's, on comments
made by Steve Stone comparing Morgan's MLB experience to
Stone partner Bob Watson's (See THE DAILY, 5/13): "I was
irritated because he chose to compare me to Watson. He
didn't compare himself to Andy Dolich, who will run the
team. What has (Stone) ever run?" (MERCURY NEWS, 5/17).
A CALL FOR MORE FUN: In St. Petersburg, Gary Shelton,
on the Devil Rays: "Here we are, barely into Year 2, 100
games or so into Tropicana Field's baseball history, and
already, everyone has turned into a grump." Shelton on what
the Devil Rays need: "More fun. More music. More laughter.
More people dancing in the aisles." Shelton writes that the
team should "turn down the darn loudspeaker and cut the
commercials," and adds that "it needs to develop fans,
through interest, through research" (ST. PETE TIMES, 5/17).
NOTES: In St. Paul, Charley Walters reported that Kirby
Puckett "remains interested in becoming a part-owner" of the
Twins (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 5/16)....In N.Y., Murray
Chass wrote that Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner has upset
employees and players by changing the team's ticket
policies. Employees were allowed to receive tickets for any
game, but are now only allowed a maximum of four tickets for
each of four games during the season. Players are still
entitled to six tickets each, but four have to be used by
     family members (N.Y. TIMES, 5/16).
