STEELERS' STADIUM COSTS RISING, BUT TEAM WILL COVER EXPENSES

The cost of the new Steelers stadium "will probably
exceed" the previous estimate of $211M, but the Steelers
"plan to sell" corporate sponsorships to "defray additional
costs," according to Tom Barnes of the PITTSBURGH POST-
GAZETTE. The plan is to erect two towers that will stand on
both sides of the south end of the stadium. Steelers VP Art
Rooney II said that the towers would be "themed," with one
tower reflecting "Pittsburgh's industrial heritage" and the
other depicting "aspects of the city's future." The towers
will be "functional," containing stairs and elevators to
allow fans to reach the upper deck of the 65,000-seat
stadium. It isn't known if the towers will contain exterior
logos, signs or corporate advertising. Rooney added that
naming rights to the stadium "would probably be sold to some
company," but that decision won't be made until "this summer
     or fall" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 5/14).
