LEADERS TO DELAY CANADIAN HOCKEY SUMMIT UNTIL JUNE?

A hockey summit on the state of Canada's NHL franchises
has "been iced indefinitely," according to Erwin & Casey of
the OTTAWA SUN. Industry Minister John Manley announced
yesterday that the summit, which had been planned for the
end of May, has been postponed due to the Ontario election.
A June meeting is possible (OTTAWA SUN, 5/13).
NOT A GOOD SIGN? Manley also commented on remarks made
by MP Norm Sterling (See THE DAILY, 5/12) that the Ontario
provincial government would not support tax breaks for
Canada's NHL franchises. Manley: "Certainly if Ontario says
'No, absolutely not,' I don't think my colleagues will want
to participate either" (OTTAWA CITIZEN, 5/13).
