RED SOX SAY THEY WANT NOMAR TALK OF FENWAY RENOVATION
Published May 13, 1999
As the Red Sox "continue to finalize their plans for a
new ballpark," the team said yesterday that there is "no way
the team can renovate Fenway Park because it is
'economically and physically impractical,'" according to Meg
Vaillancourt of the BOSTON GLOBE. The team made the
comments as preservation group, "Save Fenway Park," prepared
to unveil a new plan calling for a renovated Fenway, which
consists of expanding capacity to 44,000 and adding 72
luxury suites. Red Sox ballpark spokesperson Kathryn Murray
St. John acknowledged the appeal of a renovated Fenway, but
said, "Our architects and engineers have reviewed many
renovation options over the past four years and in their
expert opinion it simply is not structurally advisable or
economically practical to renovate" (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/13).
